I write from life, drawn to the quiet moments, the fractured memories, and the search for meaning in the everyday. My creative work, which includes essays and excerpts from memoirs, has appeared in a variety of journals and literary magazines.

  • Included in this issue is Joanne’s winning piece from the 2024 Write by the Sea Memoir Competition, a deeply evocative second-person narrative that confronts a traumatic experience with unflinching honesty.

  • Joanne's essay The Settlement has been published by TSF in their Winter 2022 issue.

  • Joanne's prose, Fruit of Your Loins, has been published in issue two of Tír na nÓg. Her story is about pregnancy, miscarriage and hope.

  • Joanne’s poem, This Day, is an exploration of grief and its relationship to time. A strong feeling of suspended animation is woven through, and the silent and (almost) secret life of those that have lost and remember is consistently revealed throughout the piece.
